National Lottery players will be at the heart of the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympics in London. There will be a contribution of £2.2 billion from the National Lottery which will be going towards the games and £750 million of this is to come from specially designated lottery games. Five new sports facilities will be funded by National Lottery players which will include an aquatics centre, the Olympic Stadium, a new VeloPark, a hockey centre and a handball arena. Chris Hoy who is the Beijing triple gold medal Olympic hero also recently announced further plans for the London 2012 VeloPark which is to be funded by the National Lottery. Amongst the areas to receive funding is the London Velodrome which seats 6,000. Following the Olympic Games a mountain bike course and a road cycle circuit will be added to the track’s facilities to create the legacy VeloPark which will combine all cycling facilities across all disciplines in one hub. In the meantime, Sarah Elsby from Blackpool, who is the Olympic Champions Scratchcard winner, received her £60,000 cheque which was presented by Dame Kelly Holmes, Olympic champion. Sarah Elsby commented on her winnings: "Winning £60,000 and meeting Kelly Holmes has really shown me that dreams can come true. I intend to use this money to support me financially as I train to be a nurse - something I've always wanted to do." |
