Lotto is an International game, and the only form of gambling the government really supports, mainly because of the large amounts of revenue the game can bring in.  The common national lottery game (also known as lotto) picks 6 numbers from 49. Choose the correct 6 in any order and you win the jackpot. Since there are 13,983,816 different combinations, the chance of winning the jackpot is 1 in 13,983,816. There are normally other smaller prizes too for guessing 3 or more numbers but the overall payout percentage is still low.

A group of lucky neighbours from Inverness in Scotland were jumping for joy at the beginning of this week after they scooped nearly £600,000 in a bumper people’s lottery.

They all lived in Spring Belter’s winning postcode of IV2 7RA.

Audrey Barr, one of the lucky winners, also played with two tickets at a time and won a staggering £199,670, while her neighbours each went home with a cool £99,835.

The delighted winners are now planning how to spend their money. Many of the winners plan to pay off their mortgages. One winner, Cecelia, a 63 year old winner, is now able to help pay for her daughter’s wedding. She commented: ‘This will make a big difference to my family.’

The remaining £508,990 was shared by 279 people from IV2 7 who each won between £7,820 and £482. The contest has raised £1.7 million for Scots charities.

The subscription only game can make instant winners out of a streetful of people in just one draw. All players have to do is pay £2 a week to register their postcode in a draw. If it is selected, you and any neighbours who play will be in the money. Each ticket matching the winning postcode receives its share of £25,000. If only one ticket for the street is sold then the ticket holder takes home the lot.

You can play the postcode lottery yourself at postcodelottery.co.uk.

Lotto Tops The Lot

Over 4 million people in the UK are regular internet gamblers according to research carried out by online measurement firm Nielsen/Net ratings.

The National Lottery website is without a doubt the most popular, accumulating 1.4 million visitors each month.  Well known brands such as William Hill and Ladbrokes are also in the top ten sites.

Out of the top ten, a massive six of these offer Lotto games, proving the lottery is extremely popular among online players.

The research also found that these sites are reaching out to a wide range of players; however 70 percent of online players are men.

Previously to label someone as being a gambler could possibly be seen as a negative, however, with nearly three quarters of the population now playing online, the label does not seem so bad.  Even the Government are becoming more supportive towards online gambling as they realise online lottery sites are able to donate a lot to many charities, big and small, across the country.

Times are now changing and the Government have now accepted this and although they are keen to bring in age restriction regulations, they want to be seen as supporting a harmless habit. Everyone needs a bit of escapism and playing the Lotto online is an enjoyable and safe way of enjoying yourself.
