National Lottery have ‘irresponsible’ advert banned by ASA

National LotteryA recent email advertising campaign for the National Lottery has been banned by the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) after a complaint from a member of the public.  The advert was sent out to existing National Lottery account holders, and was a light hearted attempt to get the many lottery players who hold accounts to purchase their usual National Lottery tickets online. The humorous email contained many possible excuses for not taking the opportunity to purchase lottery tickets online, such as being abducted by aliens.  There was even an excuse generator link included in the email which came up with excuses like "I’m sorry I’m late for work.  I was practising my lassoing and I got a bit tied up".

The midweek lottery was won last week (26 August) by three very lucky tickets which matched all six of the lottery numbers.  The jackpot was worth nearly £7 million so each of the winners will receive £2.2 million pounds each. The winners who have yet to be named were also joined on their winning streak by 35 players who matched five balls plus the bonus ball to net them a tidy £18,000 each.  Just imagine what you could buy with that?

Dorothy McDonaghDorothy McDonagh purchased her National lottery Daily Play ticket as usual at the her local Co-op, and when she saw the National Lottery winning numbers was overjoyed to find that she had won the jackpot of £30,000.  Little did she know at that stage that receiving her National Lottery win was going to be more problematic than she had first thought. Dorothy had unfortunately dropped her winning Lotto ticket in the Co-op and unfortunately someone else had picked up the ticket and then went on to make the winning National lottery claim themselves.
