After playing a National Lottery Scratchcard a baker based in Barnsley is exceedingly better off. Marilyn Jones who works for Mr Kipling Cakes won the jackpot of £100,000 when luck came her way and she matched all the winning symbols. Aged fifty five and a grandmother living in the Monk Bretton area, Marilyn spent her £1 on the scratchcard at a local Tesco store on Wombwell Lane.

Together with her husband, Raymond who is a retired lorry driver, Marilyn is spending the money on a family holiday in sunny Cyprus. On holiday they plan to decide how best to spend the rest of their win.

Marilyn recalls how in the 1980s she came close to cashing in on a similar amount when she played the Football Pools. However to her dismay she found the ticket had failed to be entered that particular week. Marilyn went on to say:

"This win is the icing on the cake, I really can't believe it. I buy a couple of scratchcards each week but when I realised that I had matched the lucky symbols I was in total shock. We haven't had a chance to spend much yet. But I have promised to buy my grandson a new mobile phone and we are going to have a lovely holiday and relax before deciding how we might treat ourselves."

Like many lottery winners Marilyn has decided to keep her job regardless of the win but we’re sure life will seem much sweeter now.
