Millions of people who played the Euromillions lotto on Friday 1st May 2009 were sat on the edge of their seats as they waited in anticipation for the lottery numbers to be revealed. Although millions of tickets were sold, not one person managed to match all the winning numbers. This now means that it will rollover to next week, where there is an estimated Euromillions prize fund of £110 million, which is the highest amount ever to be up for grabs in the lottery. The largest cash jackpot prize to be won by a single player was £77million by a player from Ireland in July 2005. Next week’s jackpot will see ticket sales rise when people rush in a hope to have the lucky lottery numbers. Although the jackpot was not won on 1st May 2009, there were still 16 lucky winners, who won over £200,000 when they matched 5 numbers and 1 lucky star and a further 26 players scooped an incredible £36,000 when they matched all 5 numbers. This meant that £8 million was paid out in total to players in the UK only and more cash prizes were paid out to Euromillions lotto players in 8 European countries. |
