The lottery has brought a ray of sunshine for a cancer patient who has had the ‘worst year of her life’ this year. A single mother to four children has won £2.49 million after playing the National Lottery. Nicky Cusack from Swindon won the jackpot when she bought a lucky dip. The line of numbers came up trumps but Nicky is still returning to her job at a local supermarket despite her windfall. After suffering from breast cancer Nicky has been told she is in remission following a recent course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Also the year kicked off badly when Nicky was attacked by six dogs that turned on her as she stepped in to protect her children. Ms Cusack recalled that as she read out her first two numbers her daughter Jade commented that she had won £10. She then went on to say: “Then I stopped when I realised I had all the other numbers, but we both couldn't believe it. I phoned my oldest daughter Kelly and asked her to check and she thought we were joking, then she said: 'Mum you've won the lottery'. “
