Fourteen friends and social club members who live in Ellesemere Port played the UK Lottery as a syndicate on Saturday 13th December 2008 and scooped a staggering £2,283,989 jackpot in time to enjoy the best Christmas they have probably ever had. The fourteen social club members had played the syndicate for three years, and even after their huge win the players still intend to continue playing. The team of lucky winners did not know they had won on the day that the lottery numbers were drawn and it was only until the following Tuesday when they consulted their weekly lottery checker did they see they had won £2.28 million. Michael Griffiths, syndicate member said: “When I was called and told that we had won, like the others, I just couldn’t believe it. Now it is finally sinking in we are all looking forward to having an extra special Christmas this year – the win will really make a big difference to our lives.” The syndicate team took home £163,142 each and many were considering dream holidays, new cars and treats for family and friends. The lottery syndicate are all keen horse racing enthusiasts and plan to take some of their winnings with them and try their new found luck at a day at the races soon. “In the New Year, no doubt we’ll organise a special day out or weekend away to the races to celebrate our win together,” Michael said. |
