Father shares Lotto Win with children on one condition

A father is sharing his £8 million Lotto jackpot with his children – under one condition – they pay for the cost of the lottery tickets!

Mr Ted Newton set up a family syndicate about fifteen years ago but once the kids left home he was left to pay for their tickets himself.

Now at the age of sixty nine, Mr Newton has asked that his children Sarah, Darren and Stephen hand over £3,000 and donate it to the mountain rescue charity that is close to Stephen’s heart, as it saved his life.

This Lucky Dip win was celebrated with the whole family and Ted said:

"I asked them time after time for their money but there was always an excuse. Maybe they paid for the first five years but after that they just stopped. I'd say, 'Come on, what about the lottery money?' They'd all say, 'I'm a bit skint this week, Dad', or 'I'll pay you next week'. Next week would come along and it was the same old story."

His son Stephen almost died in a rock climbing accident near Ben Nevis about ten years ago. The group of Adventure Scouts that Stephen was climbing with was hit by an avalanche and four of his friends were killed.

Stephen and his now-wife, Sarah, were rescued and the family has donated to the Mountain Rescue charity since that day.
