An historic building located in the heart of Glasgow is to be renovated and used by the local community thanks to funding secured from the National Lottery. The Heritage Lottery Fund has granted Maryhill Burgh Halls and one of the adjoining buildings £990,000 in funds for restoration and remodelling. New amenities on offer at the site will include office space, a recording studio and a public hall. Maryhill Burgh Halls were built in 1878 but have remained empty since 2001. As a result the halls were added to Glasgow City's 'Buildings at Risk' register.
The total cost of the restoration and renovation of Maryhill Burgh Halls and the building adjacent, a former police station are expected to cost in the region of £9million. |
