So many prizes go unclaimed, probably because the tickets have been lost or forgotten about. So it is always worthwhile keep your ticket in a safe place. There are a number of different ways you can check your lottery ticket but the easiest and most convenient way to check your lottery numbers is on the internet.

The National Lottery has thousands of prizes that go unclaimed because people have merely lost their tickets. It can be very difficult to prove that you bought that winning lottery ticket. The list of unclaimed prizes is enormous and the prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw date, after which all the money is donated to a good cause. Approximately 28% of all revenue from the National Lottery goes to good causes in the UK with a total of £23 billion since the lottery first began.

The biggest prize to date that has gone unclaimed is for £2.5 million from a draw that took place in March. The ticket was bought in the Worcester/Malvern area and the lucky winner has until the 7 September 2009 to claim their prize. Imagine if you couldn’t find your ticket for that tidy jackpot!
