Every day we hear another heart warming story about how lottery funding is helping people up and down the country. We recently learnt how a one stop service for bereaved people can now offer even more support after being awarded almost £160,000 of lottery funding.

The recently launched Hartlepool Bereavement Service will be using the money to open new sites in the town centre of Hartlepool, making it a permanent fixture.

The service has been awarded £158,531 by the Big Lottery Fund as part of a scheme to help build stronger communities.

Linda Parker of Hartlepool Bereavement Service told how the new project will provide a single point of reference for any bereaved person and their family and provide assistance in-house and through reaching out to people.

Linda also said how the lottery cash will help recruit more staff volunteers and reach out to a larger number of people, as well as this they will be able to open even longer from April.

James Turner, Big Lottery Fund's North-East head, said:

"This project is providing an invaluable service by reaching out to support individuals and families in the local community who may need guidance and a reliable source of information and advice following the death of a loved one. By working with local agencies and services the Hartlepool Bereavement Service eases what can be a traumatic time in people's lives."

So next time you purchase your lottery ticket just think of all those people you will be helping.
