Lottery winners from across the West Midlands gathered at the weekend to celebrate 15 years of the National Lottery. The event was held at Weston Park in Shropshire, with winners across the West Midlands in attendance. Since the National Lottery started, there have been 415 jackpot winners in the West Midlands. This has led to a whopping pay out of £847,540,817 to various prize winners. A National Lottery spokesperson said that the West Midlands are an ‘exceptionally lucky area to live’. This is clearly evident by the amount of money which has been paid out to winners. Winners who attended the event included John Radford and Alf Cole who won £5.4 million in 2003 and Brenda Portch who won £1.5 million in 2006. All of the winners have said that the National Lottery has changed their lives in ways they couldn’t imagine. Brenda even said she was still adjusting to winning the lottery. The 70 year old grandmother still went out to work, even though her life is far more comfortable now. Brenda also donated money to various charities which were close to her heart including Mary Stevens Hospice and has gave presents to James Degnen, a four year old boy suffering with leukaemia.
