Over 4 million people in the UK are regular internet gamblers according to research carried out by online measurement firm Nielsen/Net ratings. The National Lottery website is without a doubt the most popular, accumulating 1.4 million visitors each month. Well known brands such as William Hill and Ladbrokes are also in the top ten sites. Out of the top ten, a massive six of these offer Lotto games, proving the lottery is extremely popular among online players. The research also found that these sites are reaching out to a wide range of players; however 70 percent of online players are men. Previously to label someone as being a gambler could possibly be seen as a negative, however, with nearly three quarters of the population now playing online, the label does not seem so bad. Even the Government are becoming more supportive towards online gambling as they realise online lottery sites are able to donate a lot to many charities, big and small, across the country. Times are now changing and the Government have now accepted this and although they are keen to bring in age restriction regulations, they want to be seen as supporting a harmless habit. Everyone needs a bit of escapism and playing the Lotto online is an enjoyable and safe way of enjoying yourself. |
