It’s always nice to hear news of lottery cash being spent on good causes. And one very good cause is reaping the benefits of lottery cash since it was awarded £700,000. The Heritage Lottery Fund money was given to Farnham Castle in Surrey. It is to be used to make safe and restore the Bishop’s Palace and Keep at the castle. The building is reported to be in desperate need of repair work before it becomes a safety hazard. The entire site is also to be brought under single management. The parts to be restored, the Bishop’s Palace and Keep, are one of the few remaining medieval houses left standing so it is important that money is put towards the building. The work to the building will begin next month. The castle was built in 1138 by the grandson of William the Conqueror and it has been the home to many monarchs including Queen Victoria and the Bishop of Winchester. The future of the castle has been in question as it became more dangerous, but this national lottery has made the castle’s future much brighter.
