Thirteen nurses who formed a syndicate for the National Lottery have won £74,827 after they managed to match five of the main numbers and the bonus ball last month.

The nurses who work for Renacres Private Hospital in Ormskirk, Lancashire, each received £5,755, although this amount is not a life changing sum, it will help go towards a fabulous shopping spree and will ensure their loyalty in playing the lotto in a bid to win an even bigger cash prize in the future.

The syndicate that the nurses formed was led by nurse Carol Hirst who has commented on their win and the moment she checked their lottery numbers, saying:

“I had been away for the weekend with my husband and so I hadn’t checked the tickets on Saturday or Sunday as I normally do,” she said. “But something made me dig out the numbers at 7am on Monday morning before leaving for work and there it was – the very first line matching five numbers and the bonus ball.

"I couldn’t believe it, especially as I had been thinking of dropping out of the syndicate the previous week. I called one of the other nurses straight away who was over the moon, not just because she was five grand richer, but because I had also woken her up – she had overslept and was late for work.”

Carol later went to work and shared the news with her colleagues, who delighted in their lucky win.
