US Power BallLottery Officials in the USA are still waiting for the lucky lottery winner to come forward who scooped the massive $259,900,000 (£157,000,000) Powerball lottery jackpot prize last Wednesday.  The winner is believed to be a resident in South Carolina, but as yet the massive winner has failed to come forward to make a claim. The Powerball lottery game is extremely popular and is played in at least thirty states across the USA.

South Carolina Petrol station sold winning ticket

The winning multi-million dollar ticket – which is the tenth biggest ever in the history of the Powerball lottery game - was sold in the Murphy USA Gas Station which is situated near to a local Wal-Mart store in Columbia, and so they unknown winner could possibly be a local shopper in the store.  Whether the person concerned knows that they are now a multi-million dollar lottery winner remains to be seen.  For local people however their local fuel stations is now ‘the place’ to buy a lottery ticket, and is receiving a flurry of interest not only with local would-be lottery winners all trying to purchase their lucky winning tickets, but also with the worlds press all trying to find out who the luckiest person in the whole of the United States might be.

US taxman the biggest winner?

For those that are interested in statistics and numbers the winning numbers were 14, 24, 31, 43, 51, the Powerball number was 27 and the Power Play number was 5.  If it was a very lucky day for the eventual winner it was certainly quite a reasonable day for the other 17 players who managed to correctly match 5 of the drawn lottery numbers, as each one walked away with a very cool $200,000.  The second prize winner who chose the correct Power Play number won $1m, which although nowhere near the $259m of the first prize lottery winner, would still be considered enough cash to brighten the day – and let’s face it the life – of any normal would-be lottery winner.

The biggest winner however has to be the US federal and state tax departments because out of the massive $259m the winner will receive, once they have paid the taxes due on the win they will only get to keep $88m.
