A lotto winner of £100,000 is unsure he’ll be able to claim his scratch card prize as his identity details are too dodgy.  The fifty-two year old is a convicted thief and won the big prize after spending £2 on a scratch card at his local shop.

However the ex-con has no passport, bank account or driver’s licence and Camelot are refusing to pay out until they can see some proper ID.  William Hamilton from Dundee who was imprisoned for robbery and assault in 2004 said:

“I have to prove who I am and get a bank account before they will give me the money.  But I’ve never had a driver’s licence, I’ve never been overseas so I don’t have a passport and I don’t have a bank account of my own.  It makes me feel sick now. It’s taken all the happiness out of it and I’ve just had enough of it.”

His sister is also registered as the prize winner as she contacted Camelot on his behalf to claim the money.  Camelot has asked that Janet now sign a declaration to ensure that the prize money does belong to Mr Hamilton.

A spokesperson for the lottery organizers said that it was imperative that ‘sufficient’ ID was produced to claim a prize.  He went on to say:

“For player security, we need to ensure we pay prizes to the legitimate winning ticket-holder.”
