The Royal Shakespeare Company (RCS) has been awarded a £5 million Lotto boost by the National Lottery and the Arts Council of England. The money will be used to renovate the Warwickshire theatre in Stratford.

The Stratford theatre is currently undergoing renovation work, and the £5 million boost will provide an extension to the grant, allowing the final stages of the work to be completed.

The Arts Council England’s Alan Davey stated about the grant:

The transformation project will provide a world class theatre company with world class facilities for the future.
It is absolutely right that the Arts Council invests in that future and supports the company through the ambitious reinvention of its theatres in Stratford, which will allow it to give even more people a close-up experience of great art.
A major project to refurbish the theatres of the RCS began in 1999, and was kicked off with a £50 million grant from the Arts Council England lottery fund.
