A Christian agricultural development organisation has been awarded an astonishing £285,804 from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG).

The cash will be used to fund a ground-breaking mission in Kotoba, Central Ethiopia which aims to offer assistance to approximately 5,000 residents of the famine weary region in a mass bid for self sufficiency.

The charity is just one of a total of 16 charities based in the UK to benefit from a portion of the £6.7million donated by the Big Lottery Fund’s International Programme, which endeavours to offer aid to schemes which challenge deprivation and poverty abroad.

Send a Cow will receive the cash over a four year period, and it is hoped that the Sustainable Food Security and Livelihoods Project will serve as a guide to self sufficiency for a further 135,000 residents in the region

David Bragg who co-ordinates the Send a Cow programme in Ethiopia said in a statement:-

“This funding means that we can give direct, practical sustainable agricultural assistance to more than 5,000 people, helping them to work their way out of poverty.”

The Send a Cow project will initially help 1,000 families in Kotoba o grow their own food whilst regenerating the land.
