On 15th November 2008, Stoke City Football fan John Livesley matched six Lottery numbers on the National Lottery, winning the jackpot of £2,630,225. It’s exceptionally lucky considering that John and his wife nearly didn’t enter their winning lottery numbers.

The 15th November 2008 was a cold and rainy day but Saturday is the day that Jackie and John do their weekly food shopping; however, the pair were not so keen to leave the warmth of their home.

Fortunately, John managed to talk his wife round into making a visit to the Leek store of Morrison’s where they bought their Lottery ticket whichchanged their lives forever.

Regular UK lottery players, the couple play every Wednesday and Saturday and had continued to do so since the game launched in the UK in November 1994.

“I’d been cleaning the kitchen floor and needed a break,” Jackie explained. “I put the kettle on for a coffee and checked Teletext. I looked, looked and looked again before shouting out for John.” John, who works as a Team Leader in a Cheadle warehouse, was asleep at the time. “John was having a lie-in as he was working nights,” Jackie continued. “He ran into the living room, realising something was up, and then calmly confirmed we’d matched all six numbers.”

As with most Lotto jackpot winners, the couple were keen to celebrate their win.
