Callie Rogers, the second youngest National Lottery jackpot winner won £1.9 million at the age of 16 yrs old. The now 21 year old was arrested on Wednesday 3rd December 2008 in Whitehaven, Cumbria, for suspicion of dealing cocaine. Callie was released later in the day, without charge, however, a male, also arrested during the evening’s dawn raid, was charged on a number of counts of supplying cocaine. There are still speculators who strongly think the minimum National Lottery age required to play the UK lottery should increase from 16 years to the office age for an adult in the UK, 18 years. The gambling laws require a person to be 18 years of age and many people feel bringing lotteries into line with other gambling activities, more importantly these laws, are in place due to the inability of young people being able to deal with a radical change of life without having the maturity of a legal adult. To date, Callie had coped well with her win. It has been seen that Callie has enjoyed a fair share of holidays and shopping sprees and her money has been managed quite sensibly, with most of her UK lottery winnings being invested in property and elsewhere. There is one certain thing in all this: the national tabloids will keep tabs on our lottery winners if they grab attention in any way. It would appear that the UK press specifically love to write about downfalls to those who scooped large lottery pay outs and even though you can opt for privacy should you win, it is not always possible to get your request. |
