Every carer looking after a child must wish for a lottery win, to enable them to give them a good life and stability. For grandparents raising children in Leeds, a lottery win may not be possible, however a lottery GRANT is.

The Grandparents Association has been given £179,000 to continue to develop its Leeds Grandparents and Kinship Carers project over the next 3 years. As well as grandparents the charity also provides help for other family members, for example aunts, uncles or siblings helping to raise the child of a relative.

The main aim of the charity is to keep the child within their blood related family rather than being placed in care.

Grandparents' Association chief executive Lynn Chesterman said:

"The association is delighted with the Reaching Communities grant awarded to the Leeds area. We will be able to continue to recruit, train and support the growing numbers of volunteers."

As well as this the Big Lottery Fund has also donated £111,700 to the Leeds Animation Workshop to produce an animated DVD to raise awareness about relationships and sexual health amongst people with learning difficulties.

The workshop aims to help people with learning difficulties to form intimate relationships with others without compromising themselves or their sexual health.
