When 34 year old David Neale was made redundant from his job as a joiner in November 2008, he found himself worrying about how he would be able to support his young family.

A stroke of luck saw him secure a self employed position just before Christmas as a street lamp cleaner in his home town of Lydney.

However, just weeks later, a second stroke of luck saw David looking forward to a much brighter future for himself, his partner and his ten month old son, when he scooped £192,230 in the Euromillions draw on Friday 9th January.

Now the only thing that David has to worry about is how to spend his winnings!

He said:-

“It is just great. It still hasn’t sunk in yet, I haven’t seen any benefit so far because I haven’t had the money, I have just been trying to stay calm and be sensible about it.

I had just got home from a long day at work and decided to check my numbers, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

I was made redundant from my job as a joiner’s mate at MEB in Lydney in November.

It was difficult being laid off, especially just before Christmas, so I decided to work as a self-employed street lamp cleaner to help makes ends meet.

Basically I just check the lamps, change the bulbs and just generally do the upkeep of the street lamps.

This win is a great start to the New Year for us and gives us much needed stability.”

David has pledged to continue in his role as street lamp cleaner but hinted that wedding bells could be on the cards for him and his partner of seven years Bev Freeman now that they could afford it.
