The Irish Lottery

The Irish lottery is very similar to the Saturday night lottery in the UK in that it involves  matching six random numbers between one and forty nine plus one bonus number in order to win the game. The Irish lottery has a main prize and a number of smaller prizes that players can win. There are different number matches that are assigned to the lower prize wins, for example if you manage to match five numbers plus the bonus number then you win a fixed prize of twenty five thousand euros. Although twenty five thousand is not one of the bigger prizes it is a fair wad of cash for someone to win on a Saturday night. One of the problems with the Irish lottery is that it is not as well regulated as some of the other lotteries and there are a lot of scammers around just waiting to take unsuspecting players for their money. Even in the rest of the UK and in Europe and the US scammers get hold of people’s email addresses and send them messages notifying them of a win. As this process of phishing for someone’s personal information has become more well known, fewer people are falling for the scam and having their identity stolen.

The Irish lottery is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday and, like the BBC, the draw is published live on the Irish National television channel, the results are also made available on a number of different websites so it’s not too hard to find out whether you have won the game.
