The National Lottery has recently launched their Rich For Life scratch card for 2009. The new scratch card is currently supported by a national TV campaign which informs people that it costs £5 per game with four top prizes, which means prize winners can get £40,000 per year for life. The Rich For Life scratch card is very unlike the majority of UK lottery prizes currently offered because it is subject to income tax due to being an annuity policy. However, even after tax, top prize winners will still find themselves cash rich from their winnings. Inspiration can be taken from the Merry Millions prize winner, Maria Murray, who used her last £5 on the scratch card game last December and won the £1 million top prize. Whilst the Rich For Life game does not offer a lump sum, when translated to £40,000 each year for life, long term it could provide the prize winner with substantially more money. If a winner receives £40K per year over 40 years, that equates to £1.6 million. The current Rich For Life TV advertising campaign features a slim man who is awkwardly crammed between two larger passengers on an aeroplane. The man is attempting to drink water from a cup whilst being jostled by the person to his right; he switches hands only to be jostled by the person to his left. Water drops everywhere as the slim man sits uncomfortably between the grumpy passengers to his left and right. The scratching noise from a scratch card can be heard and suddenly the slim man is transported into a first class aircraft cabin with two pretty and attentive stewardesses. The message is: ‘Rich For Life could make everything better.’ A National Lottery spokesman commented: “We always see a fantastic response from players in-store to regular payment games. The previous version of Rich For Life was our best and fastest-selling £5 game ever – and we expect this new version to be just as popular.” |
