It was all glitz and glamour at the Lottery Awards 2009 recently.

The awards saw several community based projects go head to head to see who would win the lottery grant they wanted. Involved in the awards were youth projects, public gardens and vegetable patches and they were voted for by the public.

The awards were shown on BBC1 and saw seven good causes given £2000 of National Lottery cash each.

Causes given cash included the Harbour Place Day Centre in Grimsby and the RSPB after lottery ticket buyers voted for their favourite causes.
The awards were hosted by Myleene Class and Kirsty Gallacher and were attended by several glitzy celebrities who all wanted to celebrate the achievements of the good causes who were rewarded.

The awards helped to show where the money raised from lottery tickets goes. So often, people hand over their £1 and think nothing of it. But next time you are checking your lottery numbers just think about all those youth projects and community projects that are benefitting from the game.
