Twenty-three caring members of staff at a local housing association in Bury St Edmunds whose lotto syndicate scooped an incredible £2.6million in November 2008 have put forward a job-share proposal in order to help safeguard jobs. When management at Havebury Housing Partnership announced that it was considering redundancies amongst its 200 strong workforce, members of staff who each bagged £114,357 offered to cut their working hours or share existing positions in order to avoid other staff members losing their jobs. Acting on behalf of a number of members of staff whose positions were under threat, a spokesperson for the Unite Union said in a statement:-
After their big lotto win, several members of the lucky syndicate announced that they would pay off their mortgages, purchase new cars or go on luxury holidays but would continue to work at the Housing offices. But the considerate winners stepped in to provide the organisation with an alternative to making staff redundant. |
